The phenomenally liberal writers at Children's Television Workshop went far beyond comedy with this sketch. They're teaching porous little minds about how laudable it is to redistribute cookies...which will soon be extrapolated to hard-earned INCOME. Yay!
When our eldest daughter saw this on Sesame Street all those years ago, she turned to us and said, "That isn't right. Ernie thinks he should get some of Bert's cookie just because he WANTS it."
"Sure as I know anything, I know this—they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave."
"I will watch you on Fox News and feel bad about myself."
—President Barack Obama
"We all know how we got into this economic mess. We spent too much, borrowed with abandon, and acted like the bills would never come due. So what's the prescription for getting out? Spending more, borrowing more, and acting like the bills will never come due."

She's turned out wonderfully!
Like a lot of people, Ernie was my favorite as a kid. Now that I'm a middle-aged adult, though, I really "get" Bert.
OMG, you totally brought back some great childhood memories. Thanks. :D
Yea I "get" Bert too. Though I hope I'm not middle aged yet...
